Buller District Council

Westport harbour master resigns

24th June, 2021

Westport’s harbour master Curly James has resigned after three-years in the job.

Buller District Council’s acting group manager commercial and corporate services Krissy Trigg says he is a popular and friendly face around the port.

“Curly is well liked and has been a great asset. Council thanks him for all of his work and for initiating some fantastic initiatives at the port such as the recycling bins. He has been a terrific ambassador for Westport harbour and is popular with visitors to the port.”

Curly’s smiley face will continue to be seen around the harbour as he and his boat the Protector will contract to Council to do bar sounding work.

Recruitment for a new harbour master will start in the coming months.
