Rates Overhaul Timeline Extended

Buller District Council has decided to extend the timeline to complete the Rates Overhaul Project.  Since rejecting the first tentative draft rating model that was put forward in November 2014, Council has continued to work on a new proposal.

“It was planned to have a revised proposal to debate and put to our community in conjunction with the Annual Plan in early 2016” says Cr Lynn Brooks who chairs the Rates Review Committee, a committee that includes all Councillors.
“However we have got to the point where we are agonising over the effects to our Community, and there is not enough comfort around the table that we have full understanding of the impacts of the draft model so far ”.

Council will continue to work on a model for public consultation during 2016, with any possible new rates system being implemented from 1 July 2017.
