Westport Water Supply Trunk Main Repair Completed

15th January, 2021

The Westport and Carters Beach Water Supply trunk main repair was completed yesterday as planned. The 14” line had a significant leak nearby to Robertson Street, which required a custom spool and Gibault due to the pipe alignment.

Supply was restored to the network once the leak was fixed at around 3pm. Council’s Manager Infrastructure Delivery, Eric de Boer says: “The contractor did a great job completing the repair safely and we appreciate their efforts on such a critical shutdown.”

“We will continue our ongoing leak repair programme until the Central Government funded trunk main replacement project is completed by the end of the year.”

There have been some parts of Westport who have experienced low pressure after water service was restored. This can happen due to isolated airlocks which the contractor is currently working on to flush out. Consumers experiencing any problems are encouraged to contact Council so these can be resolved as soon as possible.

Council would like to thank consumers for their cooperation during these necessary service interruptions and apologises for any inconvenience.
