Kids and teens

For kids the library is a treasure trove of all sorts of information and resources for homework, as well as great books, DVDs, audio books and excellent stories. Whether you like Dav Pilkey, J K Rowling, John Flanagan or Daisy Meadows, at the library you can find endless hours of reading fun. We have Asterix and Tintin, Anne of Green Gables, Geronimo Stilton, Thomas the Tank engine, pony stories, fairies, ballerinas, board books and many, many more.

TEENS

For teens, the Buller District Library has DVDs, graphic novels, New Zealand fiction, nonfiction and a great range of novels. Whether you’re interested in vampires, fantasy, high school stories, romance, research, or just a great story, you’ll find something at the library.

  • DIGITAL LIBRARY

We have a great selection of online eBooks and eAudio books for all ages. You can access these through our website buller.kotui.org.nz/ or you can install the Libby or Borrowbox Apps on your device and sign-in using your Library Card or Digital Membership. We also have PressReader which gives you access to newspapers and magazines from New Zealand and around the world.

  • HOMEWORK HELP

Whatever your age, we have awesome homework help with our online databases. Click on the following links to find information on geography, science and history help, to say nothing of politics, health and famous people, plus all sorts of classroom topics from The 1981 New Zealand Springbok Tour to disasters, recycling and World War II. All of these can be accessed on our free APNK computers. Or you can access them from your own device through the library website.


Events

But wait there is more…. the library in Westport and Reefton run awesome events and programs that will be the highlight of your child’s day, month or holiday.During the school term in Westport we have:

  • Junior Book Club every Monday at 3.30 pm – 4.30 pm. Fun stories and cool bookish activities for school-aged children.
  • Tuesday Club, a free drop-in session for school-aged children. We have Lego, crafts, games, books, reading, K’nex, robots and more! From 3.00 pm – 4.30 pm every Tuesday.
  • Storytime for the under-fives at 11.00 am every Wednesday.

School holidays

If you live in Reefton your child will not miss out. We offer events for children on the following days:

  • Wednesday Lego Club at 3.00 pm weekly (including school holidays).
  • Storytime for the under-fives at 2.00 pm every second Thursday.

Over the school holidays our Summer Reading Programme will keep your child engaged.

  • The annual Summer Reading Programme is held at both libraries every summer with great prizes up-for-grabs. Sign-ups are held in December. Keep checking our website for details.
