Weed spraying starts 1 October

WestReef Services Ltd will commence its annual weed spraying programme on Thursday 1 October 2026, subject to weather conditions.

Public Notice of the right to demand a poll on the electoral system

If Buller District Council is required to hold an election in 2028, notice is given under section 28 of the Local Electoral Act 2001 that Buller District Council will continue to use the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system for the 2028 triennial election.

A by-election is required to fill an extraordinary councillor vacancy for the Westport Ward of the Buller District Council. The vacancy has arisen from the recent resignation of Councillor Colin Reidy.

Inspection of Rating Information Database

In terms of Section 28 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002, Buller District Council advises the rating information database (RID) is available for inspection online through Council’s website.

Westport Wastewater Treatment Plant - Precautionary advice

The Westport Wastewater Treatment Plant is experiencing treatment issues due to scum and foaming. There is an increased risk that the treated discharge may from time to time exceed normal levels. Council is currently working on a range of actions to improve these issues.

Public Statement - Punakaiki water supply

Buller District Council is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with landowners to purchase land and easements for the intake of the reticulated water supply for Punakaiki. This agreement has been reached under the Public Works Act, following Environment Court assisted mediation, which both parties participated constructively in.
