Westport Ward councillor resigns

Councillor Colin Reidy has resigned as an elected member of the Westport Ward, effective immediately.

Under the Local Electoral Act 2001, this will be treated as an extraordinary vacancy and must be filled by an election.

Chief Executive Officer Simon Pickford has given notice of the vacancy to the Electoral Officer. An election will be held no later than 103 days after receipt of the notice.

The election process for one seat in the Westport Ward will take place in accordance with the Local Electoral Act 2001 and will be publicly notified.

The cost of the election process to council is unknown at this point.
