Keep dogs off Buller sports and play grounds
Reports of doggy-do on sportsgrounds and play areas have prompted the Buller District Council to remind dog owners that they need to keep their pooches off these public areas.
The Council’s Control of Dogs Bylaw specifies that dogs are prohibited from children's playing parks and sports grounds, along with Victoria Square in Westport and King George VI Jubilee Park in Reefton (except in vehicles).
“It’s pretty unpleasant for people using these sports fields and playgrounds to come across unwanted deposits. Yes, people should pick up their dog’s droppings, but also, dogs are not allowed in these areas,” Group Manager Regulatory Services Simon Bastion says.
Dog owners caught breaching the by-law could face fines under the Control of Dogs Act 1996.
