Buller District Council's Annual Report 2025/26 on track for publication
Buller District Council (BDC) is making steady progress towards adopting its 2025/26 Annual Report, ahead of the 31 October deadline.
The Local Government Act 2002 (LGA) requires all councils to prepare an Annual Report at the end of each financial year. BDC's financial year end was 30 June 2026.
Under the LGA, council is required to adopt the Annual Report by 31 October each year. Last night, council's Risk and Audit Committee (RAC) received the early draft of the 2025/26 Annual Report at its bimonthly meeting.
Group Manager Corporate Services Lesley Crichton says: “The draft version reports on Year 1 of the 2025-2034 Long‐Term Plan, and budgets that were set in the 2025/26 Annual Plan. It covers the period from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, with the final draft intended to be considered for adoption at the full council meeting on 28 October.”
Due to resourcing issues within council’s Finance team, the draft financials were not available prior to yesterday's Risk and Audit Committee report being finalised. The auditors will be in Westport during the week of 21 September to work with council’s Finance team on this report.
However, the final report is currently on track to meet the statutory timeframes within the Local Government Act 2002.
Council's 2024/25 Annual Report is awaiting final review by auditors EY; this will be published on the BDC website once finalised and approved for release.
