Public notice of consultation on the Draft Long-Term Plan 2025-2034
Buller District Council are commencing a special consultative procedure to obtain community views on the draft Long-Term Plan 2025-2034.
The Local Government Act 2002 requires all territorial authorities to adopt a Long-Term Plan and review it every three years.
The Long-Term Plan outlines Council's goals, what Council aims to do, and how Council plans to pay for the services delivered to our community over the next nineyears. It also identifies the significant big-picture drivers behind Council’s actions.
The Long-Term Plan must be consulted with the public under a Special Consultation Procedure under Sections 93 and 83 of the Local Government Act 2002. Therefore, Buller District Council is seeking the community's feedback on the draft Long-Term Plan 2025-2034 before the final plan can be adopted.
A Consultation Document has been prepared which summarises the key consultation issues, the options for addressing these issues, the implications (including financial implications) of each of those options, and the likely consequences for each option on Council’s rates, debt, and levels of service.
The Consultation Document also contains a summary of the financial strategy, a synopsis of the infrastructure strategy, information about any significant changes to the way Council funds its operating and capital expenditures, changes to rates and debt levels, levels of service and the predicted impact on rates for different categories of rateable land.
The draft Long-Term Plan, Consultation Document, submission form, and other associated documents are available for inspection and may be obtained from the District Councils’ offices, libraries and on Council’s community engagement hub Let’s talk Buller.
Written submissions on the draft plan are invited during the consultation period from Friday, 25 April to 4:30 pm on Monday 26 May 2025. Late submissions will not be considered.
Submissions can be made online via Councils’ community engagement hub Let's talk Buller, delivered to Councils’ offices, emailed to submissions@bdc.govt.nz, or posted to Councils’ main office. If you have any questions, please contact Buller District Council.
Submitters who wish to speak will be given the opportunity to address the Council in support of their submission at a hearing in early June 2025.
Buller District Council, Chief Executive Officer, Simon Pickford
