Westport Wastewater Treatment Plant - Precautionary advice

08 Apr 2026

The Westport Wastewater Treatment Plant is experiencing treatment issues due to scum and foaming. There is an increased risk that the treated discharge may from time to time exceed normal levels. Council is currently working on a range of actions to improve these issues.

The plant continues to be closely monitored, and treatment levels are being adjusted as needed

Warning signs are currently in place as a precaution to let the public know of a potential health risk.

Council advises all water users to follow riverside wastewater signage. While this is not an overflow event, the precautions are the same.
