Westport’s water trunk main livening moves into final stages next week
The first stage of livening the newly installed pipework assets associated with Stage 2 of the Westport drinking water trunk main replacement has been completed successfully this week, and the next stage of livening will commence on Monday 8 September.
Group Manager Infrastructure Services Anthony Blom says: “The area of works relating to the second stage of livening activities is the two blocks of Queen Street situated between Roebuck Street and Bentham Street. However, due to the location of existing valves on adjacent water mains, some isolations will affect properties on adjacent streets. Most of the isolations will affect small, localised pockets of Westport.”
As this work draws to a close, residents in the affected areas are advised to expect localised disruptions to their water supply as the new system is livened as follows:
- Monday 8 September - 8:00 am until 4:00 pm:
Live connection of lateral feeds from 153 to 143A Queen St. Expect single property-by-property disruptions of up to 30 minutes per property.
This will affect seven properties on Queen Street, see map on BDC website. - Tuesday 9 September - 8:00 am until 4:00 pm:
Installation of interconnecting anchor block and valve assemblies near the intersection of Queen and Bentham Streets (river side) to enable connection between the new Queen Street main and the existing Queen Street main. Due to the extensive nature of the adjacent water network, this will affect the largest area with no water available during this time.
This will affect areas of Queen, Disraeli, Bentham and Mill Streets, see map on BDC website. - Wednesday 10 September - 9:00 am until 3:00 pm:
Establish lateral connections from 131 to 141 Queen Street. Expect single property-by-property disruptions of up to 30 minutes per property.
This will affect six properties on Queen Street, see map on BDC website. - Thursday 11 September - 8:00 am until 3:00 pm:
Livening of lateral connections from 154 to 136 Queen Street.
This will affect eight properties on Queen Street, see map on BDC website. - Friday 12 September - 8:00 am until 4:30 pm:
Establish interconnections between the Disraeli Street West pipeline and the new Queen Street water main. A maintenance cross-connect pipe connection near the rail crossing on Queen Street will also be completed, and the old 200 mm water main in this portion of Queen Street (Roebuck to Bentham Streets) will be made redundant.
This will affect 20 properties at the far end of Russell and Queen Streets, see map on BDC website.
Please see the maps provided in the water notices section of the BDC website for further details of the affected areas.
Flushing and testing will follow the activities at each location to ensure the water supply has been restored.
Where a property’s new lateral connection is livened as part of these activities, the contractor TruLine Civil’s staff may need to enter your property to run your outside (garden) tap for a brief period to check water is flowing at each residence. They will clearly identify themselves on arrival.
Full information about this work is also available on BDC's Facebook page.
Updates will be provided here, on the BDC Facebook page and on Coast FM.
