Westport’s NBS Theatre operating on reduced screenings due to a server malfunction
Westport’s NBS Theatre is currently operating at reduced capacity, with the 55-seat Bill Moffitt Cinema out of action due to the server which holds the film content malfunctioning.
This unforeseen fault means that content is unable to be uploaded to the projector so movies can be screened.
This issue has required a new server to be purchased from overseas, and there will be a lag of two to three weeks before this arrives in the country and can be installed by a technician from Nelson.
The cost to replace the server is estimated to be $19,880 and will be covered by repurposing an existing budget previously allocated to upgrading theatre signage.
Buller District Council’s Group Manager Community Services Krissy Trigg says: “In the meantime, all movie screenings will be held in the smaller Fred Gregory Screen Room, which seats 20 people.
Unfortunately, the need to replace the server will mean a reduced number of cinema seats available over the next two to three weeks, so we encourage members of the public to book tickets in advance if they wish to see a movie that’s screening. Once replaced, the new server will provide additional data storage space, offering some enhanced resilience.”
Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause. Updates will be provided via the NBS Theatre’s Facebook page and e-newsletter.
