Water main shutdown - Coates, Forbes and Shelswell Streets: 20 August 2025

The water supply to Coates, Forbes and Shelswell Streets will be shut down on Wednesday 20 August from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm to complete the changeover to the new water main and lateral connections to all properties.

During this time, there will be a period of no water, followed by a period of low pressure while flushing of all new connections and fire hydrants in the area is completed. Please see below for a map of the areas affected by this shutdown.

This work involves switching over approximately 50 water connections, so it will take most of the day to complete. The timing is also highly dependent on weather and ground conditions, so a backup date of Thursday 21 August has been set in case of postponement.

Residents are advised to store enough water for drinking, cooking, and toilet flushing before the shutdown, as the work is expected to take all day.

The nearby Westport Racecourse will serve as a temporary water collection point for affected residents, if required.
