Water conservation notice update: Westport and Carters Beach

18 Feb 2025

The Westport raw water reservoir is now at 82.5%. Prior to yesterday’s rainfall, the intake flow had reduced to 39 L/s, whereas the optimal continuous intake flow is 66 L/s.

We were glad to see significant rainfall last night, with more rain forecasted this week, which should help replenish the intake as much as possible. However, due to excessive turbidity (cloudiness) from the heavy rain, the intake needs to be temporarily shut down for up to 24 hours to allow water quality to return to acceptable levels.

Despite the temporary shutdown, the increased intake flow should help replenish the system once operations resume.

As a result, the water conservation notice remains in place until both the intake and reservoir levels stabilise.
