Road closure for urgent sewer main replacement - Sinnamon Street, Reefton: 10-14 August

04 Aug 2026

Buller District Council is undertaking urgent works to replace a severely blocked earthenware sewer main in Reefton.

The sewer main has been experiencing wastewater drainage issues and replacement works have been brought forward.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, Sinnamon Street (SH69) will be closed between Broadway and Shiel Street from 6:00 am on Monday 10 August until 5:00 pm on Friday 14 August to allow the sewer main replacement to be completed (24/7 closure).

Works in the area are ongoing and will continue to affect the laneway between Mace Street and Sinnamon Street until approximately Friday 14 August.

The overall project involves replacement of approximately 145 metres of sewer pipeline within the laneway south of Shiel Street, across Sinnamon Street (SH69) and into the laneway on the adjacent block. It will include associated manhole works and road reinstatement.

A signed detour route will be in place during the highway closure, and detours will remain in effect until the road has been reinstated. Motorists are asked to follow all traffic management signage and allow additional travel time.

Delays are expected to be minimal, and pedestrian access will be maintained through temporary footpath diversions where required.

Council thanks residents, businesses and road users for their patience while these essential infrastructure improvements are completed.

If you have any queries regarding these works, please contact Council on 0800 807 239.
