Reefton Visitor and Service Centre looking shiny and new

Improvements to the Reefton Visitor and Service Centre are now complete, with the Reefton community invited to view the completed upgrade works and the new library space on Tuesday 15 August.

Construction work, which started in early July finished last week and library staff have been working tirelessly to move all the books into the revitalised library space.

The Reefton Visitor and Service Centre opened in November 2022, merging the former Reefton Service Centre and the Reefton Visitor Centre, but required some tweaks to optimise the space and bring all of the services onto one site. 

Last month, the NZ Post mailboxes were installed into the centre, the full Inangahua County library book collection has been moved and alterations to the accessible toilet facilities are complete. There have also been changes to some of the emergency exits and lighting to ensure the building meets all compliance standards. 

A new designated carpark has been created at the rear of the building along the Strand ensuring safe and easy access into the building from The Strand. This entrance point has also been enhanced by the installation of automatic doors.

Acting community services group manager Shelley Jope says it is exciting progress for the centre which acts as a community hub in Reefton.

“We are so pleased it is all complete. There will continue to be some minor cosmetic finishes over the next couple of months, but we were incredibly eager to have the facility and all its services available once again. Staff will complete filling the library shelves with the last of the books on Monday. 

“We would love to see members of the local community visit us between 10am and noon on Tuesday. There will be light refreshments and a chance to see what has been achieved.”

To complete final preparations for the opening, the library services is not available until Tuesday 15 August 2023. The RVSC will have a late opening at 10am on this day.

“We know there has been a bit of disruption throughout the works and we are grateful to the staff and community for their patience. The outcome for all of us is that the upgraded Reefton Visitor and Service Centre is now a great space that works a lot better and will continue to serve the local community well now and into the future.”
