Reduced screenings at NBS Theatre due to projector fault
Westport’s NBS Theatre is currently operating at reduced capacity, with the 20-seat Fred Gregory Screen Room out of action due to a projector equipment failure last Thursday.
The projector was found to be providing a picture of unacceptable quality, and initial investigations have shown that a replacement red formatter board may be required.
The issue will be investigated further next Thursday, 12 March to confirm the initial diagnosis of the fault, understand the extent of the fault and obtain a quote for the necessary repairs.
As a result, the theatre is functioning on the 55-seat Bill Moffitt Cinema alone in the meantime, resulting in a reduced number of movie screenings being available.
Buller District Council’s Group Manager Community Services Krissy Trigg says: “This does unfortunately mean a reduced number of cinema seats will be available over the coming weeks, so booking tickets for movie screenings in advance is essential.
“This was an unforeseen equipment failure and is not related to previous equipment repairs that were required in June and October 2025. The equipment we operate in our facility is well‑used and well‑loved by the community, and given its age and high utilisation, occasional repairs are expected and will be completed within existing budget.”
Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause. Updates will be provided via the NBS Theatre’s Facebook page and e-newsletter.
