Northern Buller water supplies on the road to compliance
Buller District Council held a workshop with councillors yesterday to establish a way forward for the Northern Buller water supplies located in Waimangaroa, Mōkihinui and Little Wanganui.
The workshop focused on exploring potential options that would enable the three supplies to achieve compliance with the current New Zealand Drinking Water Standards.
In response to a cryptosporidium outbreak in Queenstown in September 2023, Taumata Arowai implemented the requirement for all Local Authorities to upgrade their drinking water supplies to include a protozoa barrier.
BDC is currently looking at affordable and compliant options to upgrade the three Northern Buller supplies, so they meet the requirements of the New Zealand Drinking Water Standards.
Council is currently in the process of generating cost estimates for suitable options, which will then be approved via council resolution and brought forward to the community.
Meetings will be held in the Waimangaroa, Mōkihinui and Little Wanganui communities in September, with exact dates, times and venues to be confirmed.
Upon completion of these community meetings, BDC will compile detailed costings for inclusion in the deferred 2025-2034 Long-Term Plan.
