Next stage of Westport’s water trunk main replacement nears completion

27 Aug 2025

All construction activities and related testing of newly installed pipework assets associated with Stage 2 of the Westport drinking water trunk main replacement have been completed, and the new pipework will now be livened in a staged approach from Monday 1 September.

Group Manager Infrastructure Services Anthony Blom says: “Completion of the trunk main Stage 2 works is a significant milestone, completing the full renewal and extension of the drinking water trunk main from the Water Treatment Plant at Sergeants Hill through to the intersection of Queen and Roebuck Streets in the Westport township.”

As work this work draws to a close, residents across Westport are advised to expect small, localised disruptions to their water supply as the new system is livened as follows:

  •  8:00 am until 4:00 pm on Monday 1 September 2025: Low pressure may be experienced throughout Westport and Carters Beach during livening of the new trunk main pipe.

  • 8:00 am until 4:00 pm on Tuesday 2 September 2025: A period of no water will be experienced for a small, confined area of the network on Abattoir Road and Kew Road while the existing street main is connected to the new street main supplied from the newly constructed section of trunk main.

  • 8:00 am until 1:30 pm on Wednesday 3 September 2025: A period of no water will be experienced at the far south end of Domett Street while the existing street main is connected to the new street main supplied from the newly constructed section of trunk main.

  • 8:00 am until 2:30 pm on Thursday 4 September 2025: A period of no water will be experienced for a small, confined area of the network on Derby Street while the existing street main is connected to the new street main supplied from the newly constructed section of trunk main.

  • 8:00 am until 4:30 pm on Friday 5 September 2025: A period of no water will be experienced on Queen Street between Roebuck Street and Bentham Street while the existing street main is connected to the new street main supplied from the newly constructed section of trunk main.

Please see the maps which will be provided in the water notices section of the BDC website for further details of the affected areas.

Flushing and testing will follow the activities at each location to ensure the water supply has been restored.

Where a property’s new lateral connection is livened as part of these activities, the contractor TruLine Civil’s staff may need to enter your property to run your outside (garden) tap for a brief period to check water is flowing at each residence. They will clearly identify themselves on arrival.

Full information about this work is available on council’s website and Facebook page. Updates will be provided on the BDC website, Facebook page and on Coast FM.

Council apologises for any inconvenience and thanks residents for their cooperation. If you have any queries, please contact Council on 0800 807 239.
