New Westport Harbour website gone live
Buller District Council’s new Westport Harbour website (www.westportharbour.co.nz) has gone live this week. The new port website replaces the old, outdated website and is now available to users.
Chief financial officer Douglas Marshall says: “The new website will be a great one-stop-shop for port users in Buller, who can now find all safety information, live local weather data, updates, and important information about our port facilities on one modern easy to navigate website.”
The old website was hosted on a content management system that will be phased out this year, requiring the redevelopment of a new site.
Mr Marshall says: “It was a great opportunity to bring the port website into council’s website family and have all sites on the same content management system. Bringing all our website into one platform creates a lot of benefits in terms of sharing hosting costs, expertise, training, and adds resilience for the administration of these sites. The new website is a great improvement from what we had and includes a lot of interactive live local weather data from the port’s own weather stations.’
Council’s communications team and IT staff have created the new port website in partnership with a software development company over the last three months.
Mr Marshall says “The new website stays with council’s branding but has its own modern look and feel, focuses on the end user and their needs. The result is a refreshed view, easy to locate information, online forms, live weather and tide data that allows users to easily find out about current and anticipated conditions at the port and the bar.”
The new website was designed to comply with high security and accessibility standards.
Mr Marshall says: “The new port website will enable us to provide a better service to our port users for a safe passage in and out of the harbour.”
The new port website can be found at Westport Harbour website (www.westportharbour.co.nz).
