New webcam for Westport Harbour
Locals can now keep an eye on the ever-changing Buller River mouth, thanks to a webcam installed recently which makes real time pictures available to harbour users and the public.
Accessible via the Westport Harbour website, the camera gives a snapshot of the river mouth at five-minute intervals, with a timelapse of the day’s images also displayed.
The webcam is a timely addition to the toolbox of safety resources that aim to ensure vessels have a safe passage in and out of Westport Harbour.
Harbourmaster Domonic Venz says: “The webcam will help all bar users make more informed decisions. Bar crossings are a well-known area of increased risk, however, seeking all available information and crossing at high water will help to reduce this risk.”
The camera was funded from the existing Port budget.
