Karamea Highway safety improvements commencing 25 November 2025

Safety improvements for the Karamea Highway funded by NZTA – Waka Kotahi’s Low Cost/Low Risk Targeted Fund are due to commence on Tuesday 25 November, continuing until Friday 19 December.

These improvements are a continuation of the corner widening works that took place on the highway in 2024-25.

Works will start at Site 1, approximately 14.6 km north of Mokihinui and occasional delays of up to 20 minutes can be expected.

A Variable Message Board will be used to provide updates to the community, and every effort will be made to minimise disruption to road users.

Council acknowledges the travel delays may be frustrating for those travelling, but the overall benefit will reap far greater reward in terms of a safer and more resilient transport link for the Karamea Community and thanks residents for their cooperation.
