Hoopla Digital comes to Buller District Libraries

26 Jul 2024

Buller District Libraries is excited to announce the launch of hoopla, a new digital library app service next week.

Library customers will be able to enjoy audiobooks, eBooks, comics and manga, music, movies, TV, and more - without the waiting time!

This brand-new service is available in addition to the library’s existing digital platforms and will become officially available on Tuesday 30 July.

Buller District Library members can sign up for hoopla with their Buller District Library card or digital membership at hoopladigital.co.nz or by downloading the hoopla app from their device’s app store. It is also accessible via the library website, bullerlibraries.nz

With hoopla’s instant collection, every title is available straight away (no waiting), meaning members can enjoy content immediately.
Hoopla works on smart devices, and in computer browsers, so borrowers can start on one device and pick up where they left off on another.

It is possible to stream titles or even download them for offline use if you are going away from Wi-Fi.

Members can borrow up to 10 items per month. Users will also discover BingePass in hoopla, which is a format that allows for unlimited access to certain bulk content within one seven-day borrowing period.

Manager Libraries NIcky Meadowcroft says: “We are thrilled to be able to offer this service to our customers and enable Buller residents to have instant access to a wide range of digital media.

With so many different genres and platforms included, we hope there is something for everyone. This app improves accessibility and eliminates waiting times, meaning items are instantly available.”

Access to this new digital platform has been funded by the library’s existing budgets, so there is no additional cost to ratepayers.

Mrs Meadowcroft says: “As we are bound by what our existing budgets allow, we have introduced this extended literature service for our community this year and will review its use and amend next year as appropriate, to ensure we monitor any financial impact.

There are several other libraries around the South Island already using hoopla, including Tasman, Timaru, Ashburton, and Clutha District libraries, to name a few. It is proving to be a popular service.”
