Free puppy socialisation classes available in Westport

03 Nov 2025

Westport dog owners and their faithful four-legged friends are invited to participate in a series of friendly puppy socialisation groups aimed at developing well-adjusted adult dogs.

Sessions will be held at the Westport Domain, starting Wednesday 12 November. A groupfor puppies aged 3-4 months will meet from 4:00 pm on Wednesdays, and if there is sufficient demand, separate weekly groups for older puppies, and older dogs will also be considered.

Group Manager Regulatory Services Simon Bastion says: “These sessions are an excellent opportunity for local dog owners to socialise their dogs and learn about responsible dog ownership in the process.

“An added bonus of attendance is that Buller District Council offers free microchipping for dogs which attend the socialisation sessions on a regular basis.”

To enrol your canine companion, please contact council’s Animal Management team on 03 788 9111 or email tracy.judd@bdc.govt.nz to register your interest prior to the sessions commencing.

Please note, the Westport Domain is a public place and is often used by people to exercise dogs of all ages and sizes. Attendance at the sessions is strictly at the dog owner’s risk.
