Digi-Coach on hand at Buller District Libraries
Buller District Libraries are participating in a programme facilitated and fully funded by the Digital Inclusion Alliance Aotearoa (DIAA) and the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), hosting a Digi-Coach who is providing digital support free of charge to the Buller community.
From 9 September to the end of November 2025, Buller’s friendly Digi-Coach Shirley will be available to help solve locals’ digital headaches on weekdays between 10 am and 2 pm at the Sue Thomson Casey Memorial Library in Westport.
The format is similar to the libraries’ popular ‘Device Advice’ sessions, with drop-in support – no appointment needed. Look out for the Digi-Coach flag and bright blue vests.
If you have a new device or app you would like help with, would like to learn more about the libraries’ digital resources and how to access them, or have any other issues using your smartphone, tablet, laptop or other device, come down to the library and Shirley will be delighted to assist you.
Shirley will also be travelling through to the Inangahua County Library in Reefton and visiting some council community outreach locations across Buller to provide device support in the next three months.
Manager Libraries Nicky Meadowcroft says: “Buller District Libraries is excited to welcome Shirley into our facilities and extend the hours of digital support available for our community in the coming 12 weeks, at no cost to ratepayers.
“We know that demand for digital advice is high in Buller, and the new programme will allow us to extend our reach and provide a greater level of assistance for our communities”.
The Digi-Coach initiative is part of a work experience programme for jobseekers, backed by MSD and delivered by DIAA in partnership with local libraries and community groups.
Local businesses are also encouraged to take note. The DIAA’s Laurence Zwimpfer says: “Employers looking for tech-savvy staff should definitely come and meet the Digi-Coaches – bring them your digital challenges – you might be so impressed they become your next hire! Our goal is for every Digi-Coach to find job opportunities during their 12-week placement.”
