Council's Stafford Street homes set to be tenanted by BT Mining Limited staff
The tender process for Buller District Council’s five Stafford Street homes is now complete and council is pleased to announce that BT Mining Limited is the successful tenderer.
Companies employing people locally and struggling to either attract or retain staff due to the shortage of rental accommodation were encouraged to submit proposals to lease the properties. One tender was submitted and evaluated as part of the process.
BT Mining Limited will use the homes to house employees, providing a boost to the local rental market.
Group Manager Community Services Krissy Trigg says: “It is fantastic to know these homes will soon have tenants again. Property management for the homes will be overseen by BT Mining Limited, reducing any costs to ratepayers, with the rental income generated by these homes contributing revenue for other council property projects.”
BT Mining Limited’s lease begins on 1 July 2025. The initial lease period is for 18 months, to 31 December 2026, with no default right of renewal.
“Council will evaluate the performance of the lease, then review any ongoing needs and the strategic use of this property closer to the time” continues Ms Trigg.
The five three-bedroom Stafford Street houses were gifted to council by Kāinga Ora following the July 2021 flood. The land the houses sit on is currently owned by the Buller Resilience Trust, which subleases to Buller District Council.
