Council’s property rationalisation moving along

27 Sep 2022

Buller District Council’s property rationalisation is progressing steadily with one of the first properties under offer and the next batch of properties ready to go on the market.

Two properties have been listed for sale through local real estate agency Property Brokers. The two are currently under offer and going through the formal process with the purchasers.

Three more properties will be put out for sale in the next two weeks.

Council’s acting group manager community services Krissy Trigg says: “It is great to see the first properties receive offers and move through the sales process. This provides an opportunity for people to realise their dream of owning or building their own home in Buller.”

One of the financial strategies Council included in its Long-Term Plan was for realising financial opportunities through the sale of surplus land and buildings which are not utilised.

Mrs Trigg explains that council staff have been reviewing Council-owned land and properties to assess their significance and strategic value.

“There is a lot of analysis and groundwork to be done before we can put a property on the market. This includes ensuring legal advice is sought and Councillors are given information to make informed decisions on the divestment of the land.”

She says that Property Brokers will be handling the ongoing sale and marketing of all properties.

Property Brokers was selected as the sales partner for this property rationalisation process in March 2022. They were chosen out of two real estate agents that responded to an invitation to submit a proposal to manage the sales.

Mrs Trigg says: “The report to council this week will be a good foundation for the new councillors to carry this project on and progress it further.”
