Buller's local government elections 2025: What to expect on Election Day
Residents and ratepayers wanting to have their say in this year’s local elections have until 12 noon on Saturday 11 October to cast their votes.
Those who have not received voting papers can still vote via the Special Vote process by first enrolling online through vote.nz. Please note, the last day to enrol to vote in the local elections is Friday 10 October 2025 and you must be enrolled to cast a Special Vote.
Special Vote documents can then be requested at council’s Brougham House office or via the Buller District Council website: https://bullerdc.govt.nz/howtovote The documents can then be collected from council’s Brougham House office, completed and deposited.
Voters who have received their papers by post can complete the form, seal it in the envelope provided and drop it in the orange voting bins provided around the district by 12 noon on Saturday. For bin locations, see https://bullerdc.govt.nz/howtovote.
Chief Executive Officer Simon Pickford says: “Brougham House will be open this Saturday from 9:00 – 12 noon for voting services, please note no other council services will be available.”
Progress results for the 2025 local elections in the Buller District will be released on Saturday afternoon. These can be viewed on the BDC website via http://bullerdc.govt.nz/progressresults Please note, this webpage will not be live until the results have been received.
Progress results only include ordinary votes, and not all ordinary votes will have been counted. These results are subject to change, as voting papers returned to council offices or orange voting bins on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning will still be in transit to the Electoral Officer.
Preliminary results will be released once all ordinary voting papers have been received and counted. These results will be announced late on Sunday, 12 October or Monday morning, after the last ordinary voting papers that were delivered to orange voting bins and council offices prior to the close of voting have been received and processed. Special votes will not be included. These results are also subject to change.
The official result will be released when all ordinary and special votes have been counted. This will be released on or before Thursday 16 October, once special voting processes have been completed. These results will be final and be posted on this webpage: https://www.electionz.com/LGE2025_resource/results.html.
Final results for the election of two Buller councillors for the West Coast Regional Council, and the election of one Buller trustee for Development West Coast will be declared by the
respective Electoral Officers and will be available on the Regional Council website www.wcrc.govt.nz and the DWC website: www.westcoast.co.nz/development-west-coast.
