Buller District Council adopts 2023/24 Annual Report

27 Feb 2026

Buller District Council adopted its 2023/24 Annual Report at the full council meeting held this week.

In the report, auditor Ernst & Young (EY) issued a qualified auditor’s opinion for the financial year ending 30 June 2024.

Chief Executive Simon Pickford says this is positive for the council: “EY issued a disclaimer on the 2022/23 Annual Report published in December last year. Considering this, having our key financials for 2023/24 verified is a positive step towards rebuilding our community’s trust in council’s financial reporting, and that of external funding partners and creditors.”

Final numbers from each annual report usually form the basis of the following year’s figures. Because insufficient information had led to the earlier annual report disclaimer, EY had to issue a qualified auditor’s opinion (indicating some limitations) for the 2023/24 Annual Report.

“We have made progress by implementing changes to our processes and systems.  That will be evident when council adopts the 2024/25 Annual Report by the end of May this year,” Mr Pickford says.
