Buller District Council would like to announce the appointment of two Freedom Camping Compliance Officers, Dion Findlay and Dan Vanderberg. These two positions were made possible by the funding Buller District Council applied for from the central government’s Freedom Camping Fund.

Dion and Dan will go through formal training and begin their roles this Friday 21 December 2018.

These are fixed term positions to provide an additional freedom camping compliance resource in an identified problem area, over the peak freedom camping season of 2018/19. The role will involve visiting known areas of concern between Fox River and McMillans Road twice each day to undertake compliance monitoring and enforcement action in accordance with Council’s Freedom Camping Bylaw, and to provide information and education to freedom campers. The role may also involve carrying out compliance, enforcement, education and information provision on areas controlled by the Department of Conservation, and/or the Grey District Council, in accordance with their respective regulations.
