Buller District Council

Westport/Carters Beach Water Supply

4th August, 2015

The Buller District Council would like to thank consumers on the Westport/Carters Beach Water Supply for their patience while urgent repairs were carried out on multiple sections of mains pipe adjacent to Stephens Road yesterday.

Work began replacing a 5 metre section of pipe where a major leak had occurred last week, this work was completed as planned. However, when attempting to replace the next 5 metre section of pipe the crew were slightly delayed due to a flooded Orowaiti River combined with high tide.

The main delay in the water being re-instated to full pressure was due to a third leak that was planned to be patched, when workers began work on this section of pipe it became immediately apparent that the section of pipe needed to be replaced rather than patched. The replacement was carried out successfully, but this did take longer than anticipated from the original plan.

WestReef Services Limited reintroduced full pressure to the Water Supply at about 5.45pm, in conjunction with this, they also carried out flushing of the mains at hydrants around town for several hours to ensure that the supply was back to normal.

Council again, apologises for those who were inconvenienced by the unforeseen situation and would like to thank those at WestReef Services Ltd who were working tirelessly in the terrible weather yesterday to ensure the work was completed.
