Westport ready for Prince Charles

6th November, 2015

The Prince of Wales will arrive in Westport on Saturday afternoon (7 November 2015) as part of the Defence Force Exercise Southern Katipo.

There will be no official public address, however Prince Charles will greet invited guests including Honours recipients at the Clocktower from 5.15pm. Those wishing to view the Prince while he is in Westport are encouraged to come along to the Clocktower during this time. Barriers will indicate the areas where people are safe to stand during the event, and have the best view.

The road will be closed to vehicular traffic on Palmerston Street from Brougham to Henley Streets, and on Lyndhurst Street from Adderley to Russell Streets from 6am on Saturday morning until after the Prince’s departure being approximately 6pm. Pedestrians are encouraged to remain on the footpaths in this area, rather than walking along the road carriageway.

Police will be manning the areas where the road is closed off to ensure no unauthorised access. Any vehicles remaining in the specified closed off area will be removed.

Westport Airport will be open and operational as usual for the Sounds Air service on Saturday. However, the Airport and grounds will be closed to the public from 11am for the remainder of Saturday. No parking will be available on Schadick Avenue from Golf Links Road to the Airport turn off.
