Buller District Council

Submissions on Buller District Plan Closing Soon

5th April, 2016

There is less than a week left for people to make a submission on proposed changes to the Buller District Plan.

The proposed changes include a new introduction to the District Plan and a revision of the significant resource management issues for the district and their accompanying objectives and policies. Changes are also proposed to the rules relating to electricity utilities and infrastructure, including more permissive standards for new power poles and aboveground electricity lines.

“The objectives and policies are a crucial part of the District Plan. They set the framework for what we want to achieve as a district in terms of resource management and sustainable development”, comments Deputy Mayor Graeme Neylon, Chair of the Council’s District Plan Review Working Group.  “They also influence the rest of the District Plan’s content, including the rules which determine what activities can occur as of right in Buller and those that require resource consent.  This is the first time the issues, objectives and policies have been reviewed in their entirety since the District Plan became operative in 2000.  I encourage people to look at the proposed changes and to let the Council know their thoughts.”

Included with the proposed plan changes are requests from the Minister of Education for designations for education purposes for St Canice’s School, Westport and Sacred Heart School, Reefton.

Additional information is available from the Council’s website and offices. Submissions close at 4.30pm on Friday 8 April.
