Strong Winds Forecast

4th April, 2017

Metservice have advised, strong south-easterly winds are forecast about central New Zealand. Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, Nelson and Buller are expected to have the strongest winds, where gusts could reach 120 km/h for a time on Wednesday.

People are advised winds of this strength could damage structures, power lines, and make driving hazardous. Do not venture outside during the extreme conditions as loose material picked up can become missiles.

Buller home owners need to secure property today, remove loose material and secure trampolines. Civil Defence also advises residents to have their emergency kits ready, check household food supplies and have torches in case power is lost. The strongest winds are expected Wednesday (5 April) morning and through to the afternoon.
