Self Evacuation Update

4th February, 2022
The Emergency Operations Centre was busy into the night preparing for more significant weather.
We are waiting for updated weather information this morning to inform mandatory evacuation decisions. We will update you as soon as possible.
Closed roads:
– SH67 to Mokihinui is blocked at Mussell Rocks / Nikau. Access to Karamea is not available at this time.
– Granite Creek Rd, Karamea is closed (this is normal)
We are awaiting the status report on the Karamea Bluffs and if there is flooding at the Tidal Creek Bridge areas.
Westport urban area roads remain open.
Routes East and South out of Westport via Upper and Lower Buller Gorges, and Coast Road to Greymouth are open.
PLEASE TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SELF-EVACUATE WHILE THESE ROADS ARE OPEN. There is an evacuation centre available for Westport residents in Greymouth at the Baptist Church, 76 High Street
Reefton has no issues to report.
Thank you to our friends at WestReef, who are doing a great job of keeping an eye on the roads.
