Pump track takes shape

8th December, 2021

The VeloSolutions crew from Rotorua have started creating Buller’s new pump track at Victoria Square today.

Following an application from the Buller Cycling Club to Buller District Council’s Community Led Revitalisation Fund, $70,000 was allocated to the project.

Buller Cycling Club treasurer Glenn Irving said the grant covered part of the total cost of the project.

“This would never have been possible without strong community support in the form of donated equipment, time, expertise, accommodation, and catering for the VeloSolution’s team.“

The recent heavy rain has not hindered progress.

“The rain makes the compacted gravel easier to work with, it doesn’t need additional moisture for compaction and there’s less dust.”

But fingers are crossed hoping the rain stays away when the asphalt is due to be laid next Monday to Wednesday.

Ground-work to prepare for the shaping and sealing of the track included clearing the site of grass and topsoil, installing drainage pipes, and laying enough gravel for the VeloSolutions team to work with.

Irving said to have world leaders VeloSolutions working on the track is great for the community.

“This will be a great asset and is sure to get well used over summer. The aim is to open the track for use before Christmas, with landscaping and finishing work to be carried out early in 2022.
