Buller District Council

Nominations lean for ICB vacancy

11th December, 2020

The by-election nomination period for the vacant seat on the Inangahua Community Board opened on Tuesday 24 November, but as of last Friday, no-one has put their hand up for the position.

With nominations closing at noon on Tuesday 22 December, all interested persons are encouraged to put their nominations forward. If none are received, the process of advertising and setting up the necessary documents must be repeated (more than once, if necessary), until the vacancy is filled.

Only after 8 October next year, can Council forego such a by-election, and appoint a willing person.  This date is then only 12 months out from the triennial election of 2022.

Any NZ citizen can stand for the position (meaning he or she does not have to reside in the area), although the two nominees must be enrolled within the Inangahua ward area.

Nomination forms and the information booklet for candidates are available from the Electoral Officer at the main office in Westport, or from the Reefton Service Centre.
