Media Release- Carters Beach Reserve sacrificial bund

27th November, 2019

The clean-up of storm debris and the completion of stage one of the sacrificial bund on the Carters Beach Reserve will recommence this week.

This work will see the sacrificial bund continued so that it extends from in front of the Carters Beach Hall along to Golf Links Road. Clean fill will be brought in for the base of the bund, so that it can be constructed to the dimensions outlined in the resource consent for the work, granted by the West Coast Regional Council.

Buller District Council has been working alongside the existing Reserve Committee and the West Coast Regional Council to continue this work, in accordance with advice from NIWA and the regional council. Both councils will be monitoring the work to ensure that resource consent conditions are met.

This work has been made possible thanks to Mark McIntyre at Johnson Bros Transport offering to donate time and machinery. Volunteers will be doing as much of the labour as possible.

In the new year council will engage with the Carters Beach community about future options for the reserve.
