Water pressure reduction in Westport and Carters Beach

Council is slowly reducing Westport’s and Carters Beach’s water pressure starting Thursday, 29 February.

Decreasing the water pressure by 50 kPa every two weeks will minimise water loss and reduce the strain on the town's water infrastructure.

This process will take approx. until mid-May and we aim to bring the town’s water pressure down to the optimal pressure of around 600 kPa.

Find out more about this project and what you need to do if you are suddenly experiencing unusually low water pressure.

Have your say on speed limits in Buller!

The West Coast community can give feedback on the Draft West Coast Regional Speed Management Plan until 16 April 2024 at 5pm.

The Draft West Coast Regional Speed Management Plan is a comprehensive document outlining the ten-year vision for speed management on the West Coast and the first three years of implementing the proposed changes around schools and high-risk, high-benefit local roads and areas.

In Buller, the plan proposes to lower the speed limit around eight schools, and seven high priority roads/high priority areas.

Recycling bin audits back for summer

Buller District Council and Smart Environmental Ltd are partnering for another summer of recycling bin audits.

This summer, the bin audits will focus on educating residents about the new recycling guidelines following the Ministry for the Environment’s order to standardise all recycling collection guidelines across New Zealand from 1 February 2024.

All materials currently accepted for kerbside collection in Buller will remain recyclable. In addition, plastic meat trays marked 1 and pizza boxes without food residue will now be accepted. All plastics marked 1, 2 and 5, whether they are clear or coloured, can now be recycled. Previously only clear plastics were accepted.
