Shaping our district

Council wants to hear what you think about its 2021 – 2031 draft Long Term Plan.

A summary of the draft Long Term Plan (LTP) is presented as a Consultation Document. The draft LTP and the summary Consultation Document are available for public consideration from Friday 16 April with submissions being accepted until 4.30pm Tuesday 18 May 2021.

There are several ways you can find out more about the 2021 – 2031 Consultation Document, the full draft Long Term Plan, and the consultation process…

  • Drop-in sessions will be held throughout the district. For details see below.
  • Download the Consultation Document and draft Long Term Plan here 16 April – 18 May.
  • Consultation Documents and submission forms can be collected from Council’s offices and libraries in Westport and Reefton, i-Sites, and Resource Centres across the district.
  • You can request copies by sending an email to LTP@bdc.govt.nz.
  • You can fill out a submission form online or collect a submission form from Council’s offices and libraries in Westport and Reefton, i-Sites, and Resource Centres across the district.
  • Councillors and staff are available during the consultation period to discuss the LTP and Consultation Document. To make an appointment please phone 0800 807 239 or email LTP@bdc.govt.nz.
  • Contact your elected representatives (Councillors) – you’ll find their contact details here.

What happens next?

The consultation period closes at 4:30pm Tuesday 18 May 2021. Written submissions must be received by Council by that time, late submissions cannot be accepted.

If you indicate on your written submission that you wish to speak to your submission – to present additional information to Councillors – you will be given a time slot to do so during the hearing that Councillors will have on 2 June 2021.

After considering all submissions Council will make any necessary changes to the draft LTP, with the final LTP being adopted on 30 June 2021. This document will come into effect from 1 July 2021.

Public meetings and drop-in sessions

Public meetings
The Mayor and Councillors will attend the public meetings where an overview of the draft 2021 – 2031 Long Term Plan will be delivered followed by an opportunity to speak individually with Councillors and staff.

Drop-in sessions
Staff will be at drop-in sessions to provide copies of the Consultation Document and submission forms, and provide information about the Long Term Plan, key dates, and what it all means.
