Buller District Council

Co-ordinator MTFJ announced

13th September, 2021

The hugely successful Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) has a new co-ordinator to lead the second year of the project.

Mayor Jamie Cleine says Buller District Council has once again contracted Buller REAP to deliver the programme that matches job seekers with employers. It also provides a range of financial subsidies to help create new jobs.

“Last year we placed more than 90 people in work. I am pleased to announce that Julie Moore has stepped into the co-ordinator role after the departure of Shayne Barry.”

Ms Barry has moved to the Recovery Team to assist the Westport community with the impacts of the July flood event.

Buller REAP chief executive Mary Rose O’Loughlin says Ms Moore has hit the ground running and will have the support of REAP and Council to ensure the $500,000 funding creates employment across Buller District.

“This has been a very successful partnership between council, Buller REAP, Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs, and the Ministry of Social Development.”

Ms Moore is looking forward to working alongside of, and providing opportunities to, employees and employers.

“I will soon be getting out and amongst the workforce and our community to see where opportunities and need are.”

Born and raised in Westport, Ms Moore owned a floristry business in Westport and more recently was the operations manager at Pulse Energy Recreation Centre (PERC).

Buller REAP chief executive Mary Rose O’Loughlin says the programme has been a very successful partnership between council, Buller REAP, and Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs.

“Mayor Jamie and I would like to thank Shayne for getting the programme established and for doing such a great job. And we’re delighted to have Julie on board for the next phase.”
