Westport students star on Seven Sharp reporting about local author’s new book

04 Nov 2024

Students from several local schools will soon be making their screen debut after spending time in front of the cameras last Tuesday afternoon at the Sue Thomson Casey Memorial Library in Westport.

Local author Jeanette Goode held an author talk and reading for the release of her new children’s picture book 'Penguins Don't Send Postcards', which was well-attended by local families.

Held in the children's section of the library, the event included an engaging conversation about where Jeanette found inspiration for her story and an opportunity for questions and answers, topped off by a penguin-themed craft session.

The Seven Sharp crew were on deck for the whole event and filmed Ms Goode reading from her book and answering questions from the floor, while also capturing the action and creativity flowing during the craft session.

Community Engagement Librarian Oliver Field says: “It’s been fantastic to have a West Coast author tell a story with local flavour to our tamariki. Having these kinds of literary events is so important for the community and we look forward to hosting more events like this at the library in the future.”

Those keen to get their hands on this iconic local tale will soon be able to borrow a copy from Buller District Libraries in Westport or Reefton.

Keep your eyes peeled for our budding local stars - the episode will be broadcast on TVNZ 1’s Seven Sharp in the coming weeks. Check the Buller District Libraries Facebook page for the broadcast date.
