Pump fault at Westport Water Treatment plant resolved

02 Dec 2025

Buller District Council has resolved the water transfer pump issue at the Westport Water Treatment Plant following last week’s advisory.

Group Manager Infrastructure Services Anthony Blom reports: “A replacement pump was sourced and installed on Monday. It has been commissioned, tested thoroughly and the plant is functioning normally again, on two fully operational pumps.”

The damaged pump will be repaired and stored as a ‘critical spare’ to strengthen the system’s resilience and ensure additional capacity is available, should a similar situation arise in the future.

Mr Blom acknowledges the community’s cooperation during the advisory period.

“We thank Westport and Carters Beach residents for taking the precautionary messaging seriously and being prepared. Preparedness for any emergency situation that may arise is an important part of community resilience,” he says.

There is no ongoing risk to the Westport or Carters Beach water supply, and the advisory notice has now been lifted.
