Water utilities contract awarded to WestReef Services Ltd

14 Dec 2022

Buller District Council and WestReef Services Ltd have signed a renewed and renegotiated water utilities maintenance contract on Tuesday 13 December 2022.

The contract includes the operations and maintenance of Buller District Council’s three waters utility assets encompassing drinking water, wastewater and storm water.

WestReef’s general manager Dylan Taylor says: “Council’s three waters contract is one of the cornerstone contracts for WestReef Services. This long-term contract is a critical part of our business. We are excited to continue to provide this service to council and Buller’s residents.”

Council’s utilities operations and maintenance contract was due to expire in January 2024.  As part of council’s commitment to improve its services to the community, the contract was reviewed ahead of time.

The contract will be effective from 1 January 2023 and has an initial term of 5.5 years. After this initial term the contract has two rights of renewal of two years each. The contract has a maximum term of 9.5 years. The rights of renewal are at discretion based on performance.

The advantages of awarding the contract to WestReef include:

  • Intimate knowledge of utility sites, assets, risk and challenges.
  • Excellent network of partner contractors and professionals.
  • High local involvement including employees and subcontractors.
  • Specialist skills and experience gained from being the previous utility network maintenance contract holder.
  • Good track record and past performance.

Council’s Interim acting chief executive officer Rachel Townrow says: “Having WestReef continue to provide this service during the three waters transition kicking off mid 2024 is great. It provides certainty for our community that rely on these important services and creates contracted work security for WestReef and its parent company Buller Holdings Ltd.”
