Health centre progresses

21 Mar 2022

Construction of Buller’s primary care and integrated health centre in Westport is expected to start in September with completion due around the middle of next year.

The new facility will house Westport Dental, Coast Medical practice, and Coast Physiotherapy.

Buller Health trustees Sharon Mason and Jamie Cleine say the new centre will provide a modern and contemporary facility with a one-stop-shop providing health services.

“This partnership approach will ensure enrolled clients can access services in a built-for-purpose clinic and they won’t have to travel outside of the district,” Ms Mason says.

South Peak Homes has the contract to build the new facility and new home consultant Shannon Carlson says the floor plans have been slightly changed to create a better working environment.

“They are only minor adjustments. We now have an in-house architectural designer who has bought fresh eyes and picked up on a couple of things we can change for the better.”

Trustees have been working with a range of other business partners from a healthcare setting and the space has been designed with options to provide a wider range of services in the future.

Health care workers around the globe have experienced increased pressure and demands through the Covid pandemic and Buller Health trustee Jamie Cleine says the local teams have worked hard to maintain professional services.

“The hard-working staff at Westport Dental and Coast Medial practice have been amazing through the pandemic and ensured continuity of service delivery. The Trustees are proud of the services provided.“
