Draft 2022-2023 Draft Annual Plan consultation closed

24 May 2022

Buller District Council received 74 submissions during the Draft 2022-2023 Draft Annual Plan consultation from Thursday 14 April to Tuesday 17 May 2022.

57 submissions were emailed or submitted online and 17 were handed in as hardcopies.

Mayor Jamie Cleine says: “It is great to see the community taking up the opportunity to have their say on council’s course for the coming year. I appreciate the time and effort of the 74 people who expressed their thoughts.”

20 residents indicated they wanted to speak to their submission during the hearing on 1 June.

“Council will read each submission and listen carefully to the speakers to bring our community’s voice into the 2022-2023 Annual Plan.”

A first analysis of the results shows a strong support to keep remaining seed funding to support establishing a community facility in Punakaiki in the 2022-2023 Annual Plan.

14 residents submitted to this topic adding up to almost 20% of the total amount of submissions received.

Council received some funding requests for ongoing support from community groups. This formed the majority of the remaining submissions.

“We value the great work our community groups do for the district and support their mahi as much as council can. This year, we have to work with a tight budget due to the financial impact of the two flood events when considering funding requests.”

Residents expressed their views on the Reefton water supply chlorination, the deferral of community facility projects, the Karamea Area School and campground water supply, and the decrease in Community Grants.

On 1 June councilors will listen to organizations or individuals who indicated they wish to speak to their submission. This will be live streamed to council’s YouTube channel.

After considering all submissions council will make any necessary changes to the 2022–2023 Draft Annual Plan, with the final 2022-2023 Annual Plan being adopted on 29 June 2022. This document will come into effect from 1 July 2022.
