Fancy yourself as a bit innovative and able to think outside the square? Handy with a hammer or know someone who you could rope in to help you out? Then get your creative cap on to design and build a funky piece of art that doubles as a seat, and be in to win with Buller District Council’s Funky Seat competition.
Mayor Garry Howard hopes that people take on the challenge of building a seat that is as unique as it is practical, and that can be enjoyed by the local community and visitors. To be eligible to enter, seats need to be able to seat at least two people, preferably more, and made from durable materials and fixings. Once the competition is over, the seats will be placed at locations around the district for community use. Designers can indicate where they would prefer to see their seat located, and Mr Howard hopes that there will be enough seats entered to ensure there is at least one located in each township in Buller.
Entrants have until Queens Birthday Weekend to design and build their seats. Seats need to be transported to the Gates of Remembrance at Victoria Park by 10.45am on Sunday 4 June 2017. The Annual All Ford Day will also be on at Victoria Park at this time so it will be a great family day out. Seat judging will be from 11am with eligible entries in to one of three fabulous prizes from local businesses.
These are: a return trip for two to Wellington flying Sounds Air, a pair of outdoor seats from Logic Street Scene and a wooden bookshelf from Coastwood.
Seats will be awarded points for originality, creativity, quality and practicality. Entries must be capable of supporting at least two adults comfortably, with the preference being that they able to support at least three or more.
Entry forms can be picked up from Council offices and libraries in Westport and Reefton,
