Buller District Council

Rates Overhaul Project

3 November 2017

Rates overhaul project and how it affects you

Buller District Council is proposing changes to the way rates are calculated.

During 2014 Buller District Council went out to the ratepayers and asked “does the current rating system work?”, “is it fair?” and “is there a better way of doing it?”

The response was overwhelming.  After that round of consultation it was determined that the community do believe another system of calculating rates could be used, but it was felt that the solution wasn’t one of the options that Council proposed at that time.

Council has listened to the feedback from the first round of consultation and has a proposal that feels is appropriate for all ratepayers in Buller.  We now present this option and seek feedback through our consultation process.

How will this affect your rates?

All ratepayers are being sent a sample of what we estimate your rates to be should this proposal proceed.  This is an example of your rates only, and is not to be treated as an invoice for payment.

A Summary Consultation Document is also included for the ratepayers information.
