Buller District Council

Buller District appoints Recovery Manager

5th February, 2018

Now that we have terminated the state of emergency we are in the recovery phase.  This requires Council to employ a specialist recovery manager to lead the recovery process which is expected to last anywhere between 1 – 3 months.

We have appointed Paul Clarkson, the current BDC Compliance Manager into this role, and will back fill his role to ensure we can continue to deliver business as usual to the best of our ability.  Regional Director Emergency Management & Natural Hazards Mark Crowe says: “After exploring the various options Paul was the obvious choice.  He not only has extensive knowledge of health & Safety and incidence management, he also has fantastic local networks and people skills.  He did an exemplary job as the planning and operations lead during the state of emergency ”    Paul will be supported by  other local Council Staff and contractors,  West Coast Civil Defence Group and the Ministry of Civil Defence.

The key focus of the recovery stage is to minimise the consequences of the disaster.  This includes ensuring that residents welfare needs are met, that the clean-up and any repairs occur,  coordinating the efforts of the agencies involved in the recovery and working with affected residents and the general community to plan and implement the ‘new normal’.
